Featured Tea Room

Derby Cathedral Centre Coffee Shop

Featured for the first time in the 4th Edition of Margaret Thornby’s Guide to Tea Rooms of Britain, this smart tea room has only been open a few years but has already gained awards and recognition. For the Cathedral Coffee Shop buying local produce as well as fairtrade produce is very important. You can expect to sample local cheeses, breads and ice creams, and fairtrade teas and coffees. How about oak smoked bacon, topped with melted cheese, wrapped in a Derbyshire oatcake for a light lunch, or locally made Bakewell Tart in the afternoon?

At the beginning of July, Whitehill Publishing set off to Derby to attend an event at the tea room to launch the tea room guide over Afternoon Tea. A fine spread had been layed on and many of the visitors were so impressed with what they saw and tried that they immediately booked Afternoon Teas for various groups within the county.

Located opposite the Cathedral, the Cathedral Coffee Shop is in the heart of the busy city of Derby yet creates a peaceful oasis away from the bustle of the shops and pubs. There is even a quite beautiful courtyard garden to the rear of the tea room and sitting here it is hard to imagine that you are really in the centre of a city at all.

With friendly service, a shop to the side of the tea room, delicious fare and a relaxed atmosphere, what better place to stop if you are in the city of Derby or close by? Margaret Thorby says:

It is very satisfying to find good tea rooms within cities these days. Many people remember the days when every large town or city had a good tea room but it is not so common nowadays. The Cathedral Coffee Shop was a great find and I applaud the fact that they use local produce
